PTA directed to communicate cellular companies’ data with Police
The Advisor to the Prime Minister on Interior A. Rehman Malik Saturday directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to communicate efficiently cellular companies data with police for curbing crimes.
He was presiding over a high level meeting with the Provincial Police Chiefs and the Chairman PTA regarding access to police to the cellular companies’ data to trace criminals.
He directed that the data should be communicated efficiently to nab the crime well in time.
It is pertinent to mention here that only intelligence agencies have direct access to mobile companies’ data. Earlier, the Senate Standing Committee on Interior also asked the PTA to give similar access to high level police officials for curbing crime.
Rehman Malik also directed the police chiefs that vehicles coming into the provincial headquarters and Islamabad should be checked at random for any explosives or weapons.
He said the suspect passengers should also be asked to produce CNIC and an advertisement campaign may also be launched to sensitize the people to carry their CNICs all the time to avoid any inconvenience.
